Tons of dog- and cat-friendly spots are available within driving distance from the city, whether you want to escape to a Jersey Shore beach town, seclude yourself in a cabin in the Catskills or live in luxury in East Hampton. When searching for pet-friendly Airbnbs, beyond making sure the listing explicitly says “pet-friendly,” look for spaces with yards (bonus points if the yards are fenced-in), high walkability scores and dog-friendly restaurants nearby. Many vacation rentals are near hiking trails and dog-friendly beaches, too. Pro tip: Always message the host to make sure you’re not breaking pet policies (some places have size and species limits) and be prepared to bring your own dog bed or travel litter box.
