I’m a fall-in-New-York person to my core. My favorite season lived in my grandparents’ apartment on the Upper East Side—pumpkin-lined brownstones, yellow foliage in Central Park, a bag of cinnamon-sugar donuts from the Donut Pub. That’s the palette I chase in a candle: pumpkin without the pie crust; cedar and oak from the trees; cinnamon that reads hot-cider-and-bakery-bag. And when it comes to finding those notes in the wild? Anthropologie is my Mecca: the place where cult classic scents (read: Capri Blue) mingle with seasonal exclusives—pumpkin-shaped vessels, whiffs of cedar leaf and oak and ghost candles that double as Halloween decor. So, in the interest of journalism (and to reclaim a sense of my youth), I went downtown and sniffed every jar on the floor.
Below, find my definitive ranking of the best Anthro candles to stock up on fall (that’ll last you through Christmas).
