I don’t say this lightly, but I may have just discovered the unicorn of kids’ toys: screen-free, mess-free, open-ended, dishwasher-safe (yes, really) and entertaining enough to get my 6-year-old, my 3-year-old and my husband to sit on the floor and play together for a full 45 minutes. (My baby wants in on the action too, but he has to wait a few more years!)
It’s called Clixo, and it’s currently on sale for Amazon's Prime Day (was $60, now $48). Psst: Prime Day kicks off on July 8 and runs through July 11, 2025, and includes savings across all categories including Prime Day beauty deals, Prime Day tech sales and more.
We first got a small set a couple of weeks ago after a friend raved about them, and I was instantly intrigued. Each piece is like a flexible, magnetic building tile that snaps together with a satisfying click (hence the name). The result? Limitless configurations that let my 6-year-old build intricate flying machines and my 3-year-old build...well, something round-ish that she calls a kitty rocket ship. Honestly, both creations are equally impressive. We have since then bought another set, which makes me wish that I had just splurged on the 42-piece set to begin with.
So far we’ve made caterpillars, robots, race cars, planes and rolling balls, or sometimes we just use them as fidget toys and click them together with no goal in mind. And that’s the beauty of it—there’s no right or wrong way to play with it. Even my husband ends up getting in on the action. And while the brand says the pieces are designed for kids ages 4 through 10, my 3-year-old has had plenty of fun making her own creations.
Bonus? Clixo is extremely travel-friendly. It all folds flat into a compact bundle that I toss in my carry-on or even my purse for restaurants, long car rides and sibling soccer games. If the pieces get dirty (I may or may not have dropped them in an airport bathroom stall), I can just pop them in the dishwasher.
It’s similar to another one of our household MVPs, Magna-Tiles, in terms of open-ended play and endless possibilities. But Clixo might just have the edge: It’s more travel-friendly, slightly less expensive and just as durable. (Note: Both toys are a bit of a splurge—but they’re the kind that actually get played with, again and again.)
At full price, it already feels worth it. But now that it’s marked down for Prime Day? I want to buy one for every kid I know (and their parents, too).
