Are you dealing with acne, dullness, fine lines or tech neck wrinkles? Chances are there’s a skincare wand that promises to tackle your concerns. Although red light therapy masks are booming right now, some of us are looking for a smaller device to get the job done (or at least pop in your bag and take on-the-go). I went on the hunt to find the crème de la crème of skincare wands and found eager volunteers to try them out for a few months to see if it truly made a difference to their skin. Plus, I chatted with two experts on ways we can incorporate them in our routines.

Meet the Experts

  • Christina Delgado, FNP-BC, is an aesthetic injector and founder of Posh Aesthetics & Wellness in New York. She specializes in injectables, skin rejuvenation and non-surgical facial contouring.
  • Dr. Gina Maccarone is a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon and founder of The Surgeonista. She specializes in body contouring, liposuctions, facelift, to name a few. She has a medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

How I Chose the Best Skincare Wands

I spent hours researching the best skincare wands in the market through customer reviews, medical experts’ recommendations and social media. From there, I asked for testers and narrowed the list down. Each tester was tasked with using their skincare wands for about three months. They documented how effective the device was for their skin and if they saw any improvement. They also took design and efficiency into consideration.

What to Consider When Shopping for a Skincare Wand

  • Design: If you’re looking for a device you can travel with (or small enough to get into small crevices), you might consider Solawave or NuFACE slimmer shapes. Maybe you’re looking for multiple attachments like Shani Darden or a variety of modes like Medicube. Consider keeping design/features into consideration.
  • Skin Concerns: Do you want to focus on acne, fine lines, dullness? Focus on finding a device that targets your skincare concerns. “LED light therapy is great for acne or aging, microcurrent for lifting and contouring and massage modes work to support circulation and lymphatic drainage,” adds Delgado. “There’s also thermal or cooling settings that can improve product absorption and calm the skin.”
  • Consistency: While most devices recommend daily, the experts recommend reading the instructions thoroughly before implementing any skincare wand to your routine. Dr. Maccarone tells me, “Before investing in any new device or skincare, the key is to be sure that you can commit to using it consistently. Otherwise, your results will be limited and you are less likely to be satisfied with the device.”
